SITE OVERVIEW:

First Christian Church is located at 634 North Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  Our church's mission is to lead people closer to Jesus Christ.  We accomplish this in many ways, but the most important method is Love.  Jesus Christ loved us enough to sacrifice His life and repair mankind's broken relationship with God; First Christian Church believes we should respond to this gift by loving Him, loving others, and trying to connect people to their loving Father. That is why we study the Bible: we believe the Bible teaches us about Jesus and equips us to become more like Him.  We try to be His representatives, not only within our church walls, but in Elizabethtown, in greater Kentucky, and throughout the world.  That is why we sponsor ministries that meet the needs of local people and why we prioritize global missions.

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT WORSHIP:

TIMES.
Our times of church-wide worship are 9:00 and 10:15 on Sunday mornings in the main auditorium. Nursery, childcare, and youth programs are available during this time.

MUSIC.
First Christian Church has a contemporary praise band consisting of several vocalists, acoustic guitar, piano, electric guitar, mandolin, keyboard, bass, and drums that lead a variety of hymns, modern classics, and contemporary praise songs.

COMMUNION.
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper each week during our worship time. Believers are invited to take the bread and cup as they are passed, then eat and drink in prayerful remembrance of Jesus.

OFFERING.
Each week, we provide an opportunity for members and regular attenders to give back a portion of the money God has given us to manage. We invite guests to simply place a completed information card in the plate during this portion of the service.

MESSAGE.
First Christian Church places a high premium on relevant, Biblical preaching and teaching.

TIME OF DECISION.
At the end of every message, everyone has an opportunity to reflect on the message and decide to let God's Word take root in their lives. If you'd like to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, this is the perfect time to come forward and speak with a decision counselor.

BASIC BELIEFS:

THE BIBLE IS TRUE.
The Apostle Paul wrote that scripture is "God-breathed" and useful to us. That's why we place a high value on the study of God's Word. The Bible isn't meant to sit on a shelf; it's meant to equip us for daily life. In the Bible, we learn how God desires His church to operate. We also learn how Jesus desires His followers to live.

GOD IS OUR CREATOR.
There is one God, who created and sustains the world. He created us "in His image" so that we could love and be loved by Him. He wants us to willingly embrace Him as our Father, which is why He placed the tree in the Garden of Eden, and why He doesn't force Himself into our lives. He wants us to choose to walk with Him.

WE HAVE SINNED.
Adam and Eve did not choose God's way. And they aren't alone: the Bible teaches that "all have sinned" (Romans 3:23). When it comes to sin, there's no reason to brag, and no reason to judge others. We have all sinned and deserve to be separated from God forever.

JESUS CAME.
The prophet Isaiah wrote, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son" (Isaiah 7:14). Jesus fulfilled that promise when He was born to Mary. He also fulfilled mankind's search for a Hero. Only a perfect man could die to save the world, and only God Himself could be that perfect man. When Jesus died on the cross, His sacrifice was for our sins. And when Jesus rose from the grave, He proved His true identity. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." In John 10:30, Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." 1 John 5:11-12 says, "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."

FOR EVERYONE.
Jesus said, "I have come that they might have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10). In chapter two of Acts, Peter is speaking to a crowd about Jesus. The listeners "were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?' Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call" (Acts 2:37-39). Peter didn't ask wealthy people to come forward; he didn't ask popular people to come forward; he didn't ask "good" people to come forward. He said that Jesus' gift is for everyone who will accept it.

ACCEPT HIM.
This next part is not a checklist or a scorecard. It's more like a peace treaty, terms for ending the rebellion. It's how we accept God as our Heavenly Father and how He adopts us as His children.
1. We admit we have sinned, then commit to leave our past behind us. (Acts 2:38)
2. We confess that Jesus is who He claimed to be: the Lord, the Son of God. (Romans 10:9-10)
3. We submit to God in baptism to seal our commitment and receive the Holy Spirit. (Romans 6:4)
4. We begin walking with God daily--that's what it means to "live by the Spirit." (Romans 8:13; 1 John 3:24)

EXPECT HEAVEN.
At the end of the book of Matthew, Jesus said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." We take His directive seriously.  We want to go to Heaven and we want to take as many people as we can with us.

CORE PRINCIPLES:

JESUS CARES.
Jesus cares about you. He cares about us all. We are His creation. He was there at our birth and He will be there when we die. In fact, He cares for us so much that He came to this world to provide a way for us to join Him in heaven when we die. The Church is one way Jesus provides for us on earth. His Church provides a home and a family. It provides support and love. It helps us to learn more about Him. Jesus cares about you and so do we. If you want to be loved for who you are (we all do) then come and see.

JESUS SPEAKS.
Jesus speaks. He said a lot of things, bold things. He instructed the curious, encouraged the worn-down, and offended the self-righteous. He said that if we look for Him, we'll find Him. He said that if we hang in there, it will be worth it. He said that He didn't come for the "righteous" people, but for folks who have messed up. If you're already perfect, you probably won't fit in here, but if you have questions and struggles in your life, you may want to come and see what Jesus has to say about it.

JESUS BUILDS.
God knows a thing or two about construction. He builds us up, as individuals, and as a church. And He gets the credit for all good things. When we place our trust in Him, He proves that His designs are flawless. Construction isn't always an easy process. It takes discipline, effort, and a plan. Jesus is the blueprint. Come and see that God has a plan for your life, and that He's ready to begin construction once you're ready to ask.

RELEVANT ENVIRONMENTS.
Relevant environments. That's been a real struggle for churches, hasn't it? To be relevant. Maybe you grew up in a church where folks were just "out of touch." No one talked about the things that mattered to you. No one was genuinely concerned about your life outside the church walls. Church and the "real world" didn't go hand in hand. We do our best to create environments that matter to people from different walks of life. We do our best to share timeless truths in a relevant way. Come and see how the Church can be relevant in your life.

STRATEGIC SERVICE.
Strategic service. In a word: excellence. We do our best to pursue excellence in everything we do. We plan advisedly. Then we serve enthusiastically. We believe that a family is happiest when everyone helps out around the house. There is a lot to do with a family the size of ours! In fact, one way to get to know us is to help as we serve one another. You don't have to be a "member" to help out. If you have ever been in a family, we can find a way for you to help. We also believe that God has given us special gifts and talents. If you have a special talent, let us know. We'll introduce you to others who share your interests.

TRUE COMMUNITY.
True community. Jesus created his Church so that people could share together, learn together, hurt together, laugh together, sing together, cry together... be together. He promised us that when two or more people are together in His name, He will be there too. We're not perfect - we're a family. Come and see what "family" was meant to be. Maybe you'd like to go ahead and get connected.
